The short answer is never.  The only constant in retail is change. Customer expectations, business climate, products, innovations, competition all drive the need to learn and grow; to keep pace with what’s new and next.  What’s curious is that learning something new is also a key motivator.  Not only for leaders but for their teams.  The best cure for someone who has hit a performance plateau is to have to learn something new.  Sometimes that’s learning how to teach others what you know how to do without thinking.

The next time you sit at your kitchen table and make that list of why you’re in retail.  Remember that one reason is probably because there’s never a dull moment.  The industry pushes us forward.  Whether we’re ready or not.
